What is the new NARUTO CARD GAME?
The NARUTO CARD GAME is a new strategic collectible card game from BANDAI CARD GAMES.
The game was officially announced on June 18, 2026 and first presented as playable at Gen Con in Indianapolis in late July 2026.
This is not simply a new series of Naruto trading cards.
The NARUTO CARD GAME is being developed as a full-fledged competitive TCG – with its own decks, game mechanics, tournaments, and later even a competitive tier that Bandai says will extend to World Championships.
Which Naruto series will be included in the TCG?
Bandai has already confirmed that the Card Game will feature characters and stories from multiple generations of the Naruto universe:
-
NARUTO
-
NARUTO: SHIPPUDEN
-
BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS
This theoretically provides Bandai with an enormous pool of characters, battles, jutsu, and story arcs for future sets.
Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, and numerous other characters can thus appear as cards across various stages of development and time periods.
How does the Naruto TCG work?
The new Naruto Card Game heavily relies on Chakra, Characters, and Ninjutsu.
Each player has a Leader around whom their deck is built.
A game consists of:
1 Leader Card
50 cards in the main deck
5 Chakra Cards
1 Summon Card
Thus, a total of 51 cards centered around the Leader, as well as the additional Chakra and Summon cards, are used.
The color of the Leader influences which characters can be played in the deck.
The goal is simple:
Reduce the opponent's Leader's life points to 0.
The 5 Card Types of the Naruto TCG
Bandai has confirmed five basic card types so far.
1. Leader Card
The Leader is the centerpiece of your deck.
The Leader's color determines which characters and strategies you can use.
At the same time, the Leader has life points. Once these drop to 0, the player loses the game.
2. Character Cards
Character Cards form the actual frontline.
You use them to attack opposing characters or the Leader.
Some characters can also use special Ninjutsu abilities if the required Chakra costs are paid.
3. EX Character Cards
The so-called EX Characters are particularly interesting.
These are more powerful character cards that can only be played when certain conditions are met.
Bandai describes them as cards that can decisively change a battle in a single turn.
For collectors, intricately designed EX Characters could become a particularly interesting card category in the future.
However, the rarity levels or special variants that EX Characters will receive have not yet been officially announced.
4. Chakra Cards
Chakra is a central resource in the Naruto universe – and also in the new TCG.
Chakra Cards are needed to activate Ninjutsu and other supporting abilities.
Bandai also shows that hidden Support Cards can be activated using Chakra. This allows players to react to opponents' actions during a battle.
5. Summon Cards
The fifth card type Bandai calls a Summon Card.
The Summon Card is needed to bring characters onto the battlefield.
To do this, the Summon Card is "reset" or exhausted, and then allows a character to be played.
Ninjutsu could become one of the most important mechanics
One of the most interesting aspects of the game is the ability to react to opponent's actions.
Bandai describes the game with the basic idea:
Read the opponent, use Chakra, and interrupt their strategy with Ninjutsu.
Hidden Support Cards apparently play an important role here.
Chakra can be used to activate these cards and, for example, react to an opponent's attack.
This might distinguish the Naruto Card Game from TCGs where a player has comparatively little influence during the opponent's turn.
However, the full official game rules have not yet been published.
What do the Naruto TCG cards look like?
The new Naruto TCG should also be interesting for pure collectors & investors.
Bandai has confirmed that different types of artwork will be used:
newly drawn illustrations by various artists
artwork from the Naruto Anime
artwork from Naruto: Shippuden
original images or artwork from the Manga
motifs from well-known scenes of the series
Especially the combination of new illustrations and original Manga artwork could become a major factor for collectors in the long term.
However, Bandai currently points out that the shown cards are still under development and the final product may change.
Masashi Kishimoto supports the announcement
For the official presentation of the Naruto Card Game, Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto released his own illustration and a short message.
Thus, the original Naruto creator accompanies at least the official introduction of the new TCG.
However, it is important:
It has not yet been confirmed that Kishimoto designs cards or is directly involved in the game's development.
Bandai merely confirms his special illustration and message for the announcement.
Are there already Naruto TCG Promo Cards?
Yes.
Although the actual TCG won't be released until 2027, the first official promo cards have already been distributed.
At Gen Con 2026, participants of the first tutorial sessions, for example, could receive the:
CP-001 Chakra Card – Gen Con 2026 Version
Further events were also announced for CP-001.
For a collaboration at the NARUTO Night at Yankee Stadium on September 8, 2026, a special CP-001 Chakra Card with Yankees branding was even announced.
For collectors, it should therefore be interesting to observe whether these early pre-release promos will later hold a special position within the Naruto Card Game.
Of course, no future value development can be derived or guaranteed from this.
When will the Naruto TCG be released in Switzerland?
The exact release date has not yet been announced.
Officially confirmed is:
Summer 2027
Bandai plans a simultaneous worldwide release.
Particularly interesting for Swiss collectors:
On the official NARUTO CARD GAME website, Switzerland is explicitly listed as a supported European region.
Thus, Switzerland is part of the official European rollout structure.
Naruto TCG Roadmap until Release 2027
Bandai is planning an unusually long build-up period before the actual release.
The current roadmap includes, among other things:
July 30 – August 2, 2026: World premiere and first tutorial sessions at Gen Con
October 8–11, 2026: New York Comic Con – further information

After release, official store tournaments and larger competitions are also planned, which should ultimately lead to World Championships.
Is the Naruto TCG interesting for collectors?
It is still too early to make a statement about the future value development of the cards or sealed products.
From a collector's perspective, however, the project has some interesting features:
Naruto is one of the world's most famous manga and anime franchises.
Bandai is launching the game internationally at the same time.
NARUTO, SHIPPUDEN, and BORUTO will be covered within the same game.
There will be both newly drawn artworks and anime and manga artwork.
Bandai plans an extensive Organized Play and tournament system from the beginning.
There are already initial event promos before the release.
Whether booster boxes or individual cards will actually increase in value later depends, however, on factors such as print run, demand, reprints, rarities, and the long-term popularity of the game.
